I ordered the #7 and added lettuce and pickles and what else can I say but wow!!! The cashier was polite and the ambiance is work class traffic nonstop. You have the local police, firefighters,City workers, teachers and other construction workers getting their top quality grub on. The wait wasn't long and there's plenty of seating.
As a Dodgers fan it seems like there are plenty of food options these days within a mile of the stadium and with the luxury of being able to bring food into a game, it's a no brainer to hit one of these fine establishments. One of the stalwarts is most definitely Eastside Italian Deli just down the hill. Dropping by before a game is like walking into Dodgers Town with a great sports bar vibe. But stay focused and make your way to the counter to order some of the best sandwiches in town. I picked up four of them for opening day and they were all delicious but the standout, as usual, was the Spicy Italian: Salami, cappicolla, mortadella, ham, and provolone with that Italian hot mix on a perfect roll is pure heaven. And finally, I can't forget to add how great the staff is, even when the fans in blue have descended upon them and it's chaos right before the first pitch. Always professional, always with the smiles.
The ambience at this restaurant is nice. It is very spacious and was pretty quiet when I went. The staff is not very friendly, but gets the job done. I wasn't welcomed by anyone and didn't know where to pay, but I eventually made eye contact with someone who worked there so I was able to place my order. As for the sandwich, the spicy Italian cold cut sandwich that I bought was delicious. I would just note that the bread was very hard and did do some damage to the roof of my mouth lol. I do not recommend these sandwiches to anyone with dentures or soft teeth lol . I paid $29.40 for 2 sandwiches. Overall, I would probably come again to pick up a sandwich to go .
Minutes from Dodger Stadium, this no-frills Italian deli serves up hefty, old-school sandwiches. If you love Pinks or Philippe's, add this to your list. The Food I had the Italian Cold Cut--great bread, generous meats, solid flavor. Fan favorites: Meatball Sandwich - Highly recommended. Chicken Parmesan - A crowd favorite. Hot Sausage Sandwich - Another must-try. The Experience Simple, classic, and packed with regulars. Prices are up, but portions are big. Would I Drive Across Town? For a casual lunch, maybe not. But with friends in town? Absolutely. Catch me Sunday at 5 PM on AM 870 KRLA for more food talk!
Delicious sandwiches and great customer service just wish they were open on Saturdays!
A few years ago I worked with a bunch of construction guys and they raved about this place. One even gave me a gift card for here. And after a few years of letting the gift card collect dust in my wallet, I was fortunate to be on that side of town around lunch time. I usually get the turkey or the tuna. Both are amazing. I want to venture out and try more of their sandwiches but I am a creature of habit. The sandwiches are delicious! I now understand the hype. I've tried their potato salad and it wasn't the best in my opinion. The lines get long around lunch time and it's only street parking so beware. I've called in my order while standing outside because the line was pretty long.
Great food and service. They quickly take your order and within minutes they call your number. Shareable portions for most of their sandwiches. They are busy during lunch time as many people from the court house come here to eat.
What I Ordered: -#7 Roast Beef & Pastrami with Cheese & Peppers & Tomato Sauce $17.20 Eastside Italian Deli is one of those hidden gems in Chinatown. It has been open since 1929. It was well worth the visit to come here. I use to work with a retired LAPD officer and he recommended this place and few others. All his recommendations have been spot on! Thanks Rudy! I heard that they are known for a few different kinds of sandwiches such as the DA special, but I was told that it has a lot of meat and was recommended the #7 by one of their employees. The #7 is comprised of Roast Beef & Pastrami with Cheese & Peppers & Tomato Sauce. It costs $17.20 plus tax. Delizioso! The hot sub is drenched in tomato sauce. Don't eat this when wearing white or if you don't want to get messy. It was so worth it to get my hands covered in tomato sauce and I would gladly do it all over again. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying The Bear Special and The DA Special. I highly recommend coming here and seeing for yourself.
Eastside Italian Deli in Downtown LA serves no joke, the best Italian sandwich in the city. Great value for the price with generous portions and delicious flavors, including a nice touch of sweetness. The ambiance is typical of a deli, but the tables could use a cleaning. They could also offer more chip and beverage options. The staff is friendly, and the food is served quickly. A solid choice for a tasty, filling sandwich! I'll be coming back to try something else.
Est. 1929- An historical Italian deli serving the heart of Los Angeles. For decades, Eastside Deli has been an institution. When you walk through the door, you can feel an old-school East Side vibe, (Chicago, New York, New Jersey, etc). Everything is cooked fresh daily (they don't own a freezer), and all the sandwiches are massive. I ordered the Eastside Special, formally known as the DA. Roast beef, pastrami, sausage and meatball with cheese and peppers, served hot. I got it to go, so they separate the bread from the fixings, to keep the bread from getting soggy. The roast beef and pastrami are well cooked and very tender. The meatball and sausage are nicely seasoned and the tomato sauce ties it all together - Excellent! I also order the Spicy Italian Sub (Salami, Cappicolla, Mortadella, Ham, and Provolone Cheese Mayo, Mustard, Olive Oil, Balsamic Vinegar, Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Oregano, Black Pepper, and Italian Hot Mix). This is quite possibly, the best Italian Sub I've ever had . . . true story. The usual crowd are regulars and everyone seems to know, each other. The service is helpful, but if you're a regular, it's extra friendly. Also, they don't add any ridiculous fees to the bill. Eastside really is special, and there are so many good things here, it will take many visits to taste it all. Next time back, I'm going to try the #7, and of course, I've got to get another Spicy Italian Sub!!!
